The new pathway to immigration program is open to students with part-time and co-op work experience earned between May 1, 2018 and April 30, 2021. Starting May 6, 2021, IRRCC will begin accepting applications for temporary workers, there are 30,000 spots in total. International students who have been working at least 15 hours per week in a paid job under a valid study permit may be able to apply for PR. You will still need to show a recent IELTS (General) language test with a minimum of 4.0 in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Under this new program, students need to demonstrate they have worked 1,560 hours within the past three years in an “essential” job. Press Release February 23, 2021 The ILAC Education Group and Air Canada have signed a joint agreement to support international student travel to Canada. All ILAC students with a valid study permit are now eligible for a 15% discount on any international Air Canada flight to Toronto or Vancouver. The partnership with Air Canada, the largest domestic and international airline, serving six continents, will significantly help international students who are planning to come to Canada. November 3, 2020 PRESS RELEASE For immediate release ILAC is now on the approved list of designated learning institutions (DLIs) that have reopened to international students from outside of Canada. The list also includes ILAC’s Higher Education division made up of ILAC International College, Sterling College and Canadian Tourism College (CTC). International students who have or have been approved for a study permit and are travelling to Canada for a non-discretionary or non-optional purpose are now able to attend courses at ILAC schools in Toronto and Vancouver. In order to reopen to international students who aren’t currently in Canada, Ontario and British Columbia had to review ILAC’s COVID-19 readiness plan to ensure it protects the health and safety of all students, staff and the ILAC community. Two years ago, Sterling College in Vancouver launched its Post Graduate Certificate in Nursing to help internationally trained nurses achieve their goal of becoming nurses in British Columbia. Since then, over 22 nursing students have gone on to complete their Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination (CPNRE) and National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) and are now registered nurses in Canada. “Sterling College went above and beyond to support and guide me in achieving my goals,” says Coleen Castanares, a nursing graduate originally from the Philippines. “Thank you to my instructors, who were really generous with their time, stuck by me and had faith that I would get there in the end.” The program has since transitioned into Sterling’s public-private partnership (PPP) with Red Deer College in Alberta, launched earlier this year. With over 8 years of experience in education, we are pleased to have Sophie Kaur as business program instructor at Sterling College. She began her educational career as a business management lecturer in the U.K. and holds a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and Masters in Business Management from the University of Salford. After completing her Masters, Sophie realized that teaching business was her true calling and completed her teaching certificates.
